Cake & Counsel

Ruth Reid is a Criminal Barrister at 3TG Chambers in London, where she has established herself as a formidable advocate with a passion for diversity, inclusion, equality, equity and effective representation.

Understanding the complexities and hurdles that aspiring legal professionals face, Ruth took the initiative to create ‘Cake and Counsel,’ a networking platform designed to foster a sense of community and support among those pursuing legal careers. Through this initiative, she hosts events that not only provide valuable insights into the profession but also create a welcoming space for dialogue and mentorship amongst peers and practitioners. Ruth's commitment to uplifting others in the legal community reflects her own experiences and the challenges she overcame on her journey, which she also does through personally mentoring a number of individuals.

Alongside her practice and various voluntary roles outside the legal sector, Ruth is also the co-head of the Education team for Urban Lawyers, an Equality and Diversity officer for her chambers and an advocacy trainer for Sikhs in law; intentionally supporting organisations committed to widening access and equality in the legal field. For this, Ruth has been recognised as a finalist for a number of Awards and was the winner in the Legal and Professional Services category at the Black Talent Awards 2022.
